Film Trailer & Evaluation

For my trailer there is a number stylistic editing choices that are vital for my trailer to be effective and follow the codes and conventions of a traditional film trailer.

Firstly, I used sharp and quick cuts instead of long cuts, this is so that the audience only see a little bit of shots and it leaves them wanting more. It also creates a high tempo, which builds tension and the audiences will be left on the edge of their seats, which is the purpose of a film trailer. It also helps keep the trailer to an appropriate timeframe, which is vital as if it gets too long and could become boring to the audience.

Secondly, I edited in appropriate music to compliment the shots and cuts. To do this I had had to find my desired music on YouTube, then convert the MP4 youtube video to an MP3, then import the MP3 into adobe premiere pro. The music works well as it juxtaposes the quick cuts and high tempo with slow tempo music. This leaves the audience feeling uneasy and intrigued by the film as they are unsure what to expect. This leads to the audience wanting to see more, which is the purpose of a film trailer.

The trailer also introduces the audience to all three characters, this is key as it allows the audience to view the casting and get a feel for what characters are like. It also allows the audience to relate to characters, which would allow the film to build a relationship with their audience and mean the audience are more likely to watch the full film.

The trailer is also edited in a way that scenes are mixed and matched, this means the audience are kept guessing and could stop them from spotting or hearing a spoiler, or could lead them into a false sense of security when it comes to a character and their storyline. This creates tension and intrigue and helps achieve the purpose of the trailer.
