Short Film & Evaluation
This shot is an establishing shot of the main character and shows him in the first shot. The close up also shows the audience the emotion of the character while he is sleeping, this is the first sign to the audience that the character has mental problems.
This close up shot also shows the audience the emotion on the characters face and again in another shot shows the audience that the character may have mental problems. Having two shots showing the audience this early on of the characters distress will stick with them throughout the film.
The use of the shot reverse shot is used here as there is two people talking to one another and this allows the audience to see the full emotion of the characters. While also allowing the film to keep its tempo and feel.
This longshot establishes to the audience the main location in the film. This is a vital to the audience as they now know the location and are more educated about the film.
The use of this longshot allows the audience to see through the characters eyes while looking at the other two characters. This adds realism and creates tension for the audience as the shot now involves them. This brings the audience to the edge of their seats for the climax of the film.
To edited my film I used Adobe Premiere Pro. After I finished filming I took all the clips from my SD card and imported them into premiere pro, this meant that I had every clip I need to maximise my edit and the techniques I could use.
It also meant I was more efficient with my edit as there was no confusion over where my shots were.

Shown below is the toolbar in premiere pro and shows a lot of the tools I used to cut and perfect the edit. The tools specifically the razor tool is vital as it helps cut unwanted bits from takes and allow you to surgically cut the film together and get the film to flow, which is vital for audiences enjoyment and the tempo of the film.
This image shows where I have inserted sound effects and background music. To get the sound effects and music I desired, I had to convert YouTube videos to MP3s. After I done this I imported them into Premiere Pro.
Once on Premiere Pro, I simply had to drag the short audio clip onto the film edit. However after I had done this the audio was overpowering the characters and the footage, so I knew I had to lower the audio volume of the sound effects. To do this I right clicked o the audio clip and selected "Audio Gain" then choose the level that worked best.
The editing technique that is very prevalent throughout the film is "Parallel Editing". This is shown when the main character is alone in the house and the film cuts to the two wandering schoolboys walking through the gate. I used this technique as it challenges the audiences to recognise and focus on the timeframe of the film. It is also used to keep the audience on the edge of their seats as they try and anticipate what will happen next
