Final Storyboards

Image
Short Film  For my short film storyboarding I decided to use a six cell and an eight cell template. This fit as I aimed to have more room to write information about camera movements and sound. As you can see above I have used arrows to detail camera movements and noted in the description what type of sound is in a shot. This template is different from the above template again it has various examples of illustrating camera movement and characters emotions. I also describe what the camera movement is to avoid confusion. Game Adaption For the game adaption of my short film I used storyboard templates with four and six cells. This allowed me to do one template fully focused on the visual of the of the games cut-scenes, which is a vital part of realistic thriller games. I also detailed the sound effects within the shots, this helps to further visualise the scene and the intensity of it. This template I chose to explain camera movements and show the emotion of the ...

Storyboard drafts

Image
This is my film storyboard draft. It is a six cell template, but there is not much room for description, this factored into my decision to use and eight cell template for my final storyboard. After some feedback I became aware that I didn't detail enough about sound or camera movement, which I amend in my final storyboards. There is also not enough shown of the characters and the emotion they should be showing. This is my game storyboard draft. I really like how this draft was done. The six cells works perfectly as I can show enough details in drawings while also describing the camera movement, this helps when trying to show realism to the reader and helping them understand the concept. The feedback I got on this draft was positive. As I have both descriptive drawing and writing. These are the original key props. they give an idea to key plot points in the short film. This the first drawing of a key location in the film, This helps paint a picture of wh...

Filming progress

Image
On 11/6/19, I took my cast and crew out to film internal and external scenes at my house.  I had checked the weather reports on the news and on my phone in advance of my shoot to make sure we would not encounter any adverse weather, and had organised with cast and crew via the group chat a shooting time of 11am-5pm.  Helping me with the camera was Tom, and Joe and Rob were the actors in the scene.  We used classmate Joshs car to transport our equipment which consisted of a Canon 1200D digital camera and a tripod  I had location scouted my own home was perfect as a location, as the size of the home and the tree line was perfect for an abandoned feel. To ensure that all cast  and crew would be safe, we walked through the scene first to eliminate any trip hazards, and then set up to film.   I wanted a combination of long shots and close ups.  So I initially set up the close up with the tripod in the mirror, I then set up th...

Single camera techniques

Image
Single camera production uses only one camera and various shots and angles are taken using only one camera if a scene cuts back and forth between two actors the director will first shoot all shots with one actor then run the scene from point b with a second actor. This camera method that is used by filmmakers in comedy and drama, by tv programs in sitcom and used a lot in corporate video production. Multi-camera production uses more than one camera, generally in production to outer cameras will shoot close up shots or crosses of the two most active characters, while two central cameras would shoot a wider master shot. This way multiple shots would be caught in one take and is used a lot in shows that have a high output like soap operas. Also is vital part of live television like news programs, as shown below. The pros of using multi-camera production are it saves a lot of time when filming and editing, it also helps when tracking continuity issues. Compared to ...

Film Trailer & Evaluation

Image
For my trailer there is a number stylistic editing choices that are vital for my trailer to be effective and follow the codes and conventions of a traditional film trailer. Firstly, I used sharp and quick cuts instead of long cuts, this is so that the audience only see a little bit of shots and it leaves them wanting more. It also creates a high tempo, which builds tension and the audiences will be left on the edge of their seats, which is the purpose of a film trailer. It also helps keep the trailer to an appropriate timeframe, which is vital as if it gets too long and could become boring to the audience. Secondly, I edited in appropriate music to compliment the shots and cuts. To do this I had had to find my desired music on YouTube, then convert the MP4 youtube video to an MP3, then import the MP3 into adobe premiere pro. The music works well as it juxtaposes the quick cuts and high tempo with slow tempo music. This leaves the audience feeling uneasy and intrigued by the film ...

Non-continuity Film & Evaluation

Image
The non-continuity edit has a lot of key features that make it non-continuity and show the audience that the timeline of the film is not linear. The biggest non-continuity edit I made was to alter the beginning and end of the film. I made the decision to move the ending from the the last scene of the film to the first scene. This meant the films timeline was not linear. This was clear to the audience as the main character Tom is panicking and having a mental breakdown, when in the next scene, he is waking up and starting his morning. This causes the audience to have immense intrigue and be on the edge of their seat for the rest of the film as they try to perceive how the main character ends up up in this situation. To help show the audience that there has been a change from a linear timeline to a non-linear timeline there is a dramatic change in lighting from the first scene (the end) to the main character starting his day in bright lighting, which implies to the audience that ...

Short Film & Evaluation

Image
This shot is an establishing shot of the main character and shows him in the first shot. The close up also shows the audience the emotion of the character while he is sleeping, this is the first sign to the audience that the character has mental problems. This close up shot also shows the audience the emotion on the characters face and again in another shot shows the audience that the character may have mental problems. Having two shots showing the audience this early on of the characters distress will stick with them throughout the film. The use of the shot reverse shot is used here as there is two people talking to one another and     this allows the audience to see the full emotion                                                                             ...

Editing techniques

Continuity editing is the process of combining shots that are related or different shots cut from a single shot cut into a sequence to direct viewers to a existing consistency across both location and time. Non-continuity editing is the editing technique of mismatching shots to mess with the impression of time. This disturbs the audiences impression of reality. An example use of non-continuity editing would be a flashback or a montage. I am going to analyse a section of several clips and evaluate their use of specific editing techniques. I will explain the type of technique used in each clip, then I will explain my believed purpose of said technique. Battle Potemkin:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laJ_1P-Py2k     There is a lot of different editing techniques in this clip, one techniques are "Dissolve Fading". dissolve fading could've been used for many reasons, one of these reasons is the fade, which will give the audience the feeling they are on the edge of thei...

For my mock interview I believe I was prepared as I studied the question that were asked and prepared for my answers.

teeside uni write up

I visited Teeside Uni on the 9th May, and I went to a number of talks about sports journalism and everything alike. The first talk was by a journalist from The Sports Bible,  he talked about the inner workings of the social media business. He told us how certain that he was of the career path the had chosen and how much he would recommend it to others. Another talked about his experiences with jobs that his position had shown him in the past, for example he talked about visiting oil rigs. He mentioned that there were exciting attributes to his job, as well as the times being flexible, which was necessary due to his personal life. As well as the sports journalism course was shown to be for younger people rather than that of older, this is due to the amount of social media and online presence needed for the role. To begin the visit though our personal details were taken. These included an email address, names, dates of birth and a  phone number. This was done to help fu...
